Lewis County Jail Release Paths
Lewis County Jail is the county’s one verified local detention facility. It is operated by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and is not a Missouri Department of Corrections prison. That boundary controls the search. A local booking can close when a person posts bond, a judge orders release, credited time satisfies a judgment, charges are dismissed, or a local sentence ends. Those events may lead to the community.
The same jail transaction may instead record a transfer. Missouri DOC, another county, a federal authority, or immigration authorities can take custody after the Lewis County booking closes. In that case, “released” describes departure from the local jail building, not freedom from custody. Ask for the release type and receiving agency. Then continue with that agency’s current locator or records office.
A sound confirmation usually pairs the sheriff’s release transaction with the correct case docket. The sheriff supplies physical movement, release time, and any destination recorded by the jail. Missouri Case.net supplies bond, release order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, probation, and later case action. Neither record should be forced to answer the other source’s question.
Check Lewis County Jail Releases
The official sheriff roster has separate Current and Released choices. The Released view covers a rolling 48-hour period. It can be searched by first or last name and sorted by name or release date. The list observed during research displayed name, Booking #, age, Release Date, Booking Date, charges when present, a booking image, and a profile link.
- Accept the sheriff roster disclaimer and choose the Released category.
- Search by first or last name, or sort the results newest to oldest.
- Match the booking number and booking date, especially when a name has repeat bookings.
- Open the linked profile and record the Release Date shown for that booking.
- Call the sheriff when the release reason, destination, or just-processed status is unclear.
- Use Case.net for the court event, then follow any receiving agency named in a transfer.
The roster’s disclaimer says the information is collected and maintained for visitor convenience and that the detention center cannot certify its accuracy or authenticity. A later correction can occur. The published window is not the jail’s legal records-retention period. For an older release or a fuller account, request the underlying booking and release record.
The official Lewis County roster entry page explains the Current and 48 Hour Release categories. The broader Lewis County released inmate search covers older county records, state corrections, court, federal, and immigration fallbacks.
Lewis County Jail Contact
Use the jail telephone for urgent custody accuracy and to confirm the current records-request route. The sheriff site identifies the number as a 24-hour non-emergency line. No reliable official lobby hours, records-unit hours, release-processing schedule, public records email, or local flat fee was found. Call before visiting. Do not send sensitive identifying details through the ordinary site contact form, which the sheriff says is not monitored at all times.

The official Lewis County Sheriff website is the starting point for current county contact and custody navigation.
The agency page confirms the county source, while a booking number and direct call remain the practical tools for one release question.
When calling, provide the full name, date of birth if known, booking number, and a narrow booking date range. Ask whether the person remains in current custody, was released to the community, or was transferred. If transferred, ask for the receiving agency. A roster Release Date alone does not supply those facts.
Lewis County Jail Profile
The sheriff’s official jail history states that the current jail has operated continuously since 1997. It has capacity for 18 people, with a typical daily population of 9 to 13 depending on the year. Most people held there face pretrial state charges filed by the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney. The jail may also provide detention services for nearby counties and municipalities when needed.
Those local arrangements make the booking agency and case venue important. A profile on the Lewis County Jail roster does not by itself prove that the underlying charge arose in Lewis County. The person may have been held for another local authority. Use the arresting or committing agency in the booking record and find the matching court before interpreting a release.
The official Lewis County Jail page provides the facility history and capacity figures.
The local operating details help explain why a facility release must be tied to the proper booking agency and case venue.
Request Lewis County Release Records
Address a Missouri Chapter 610 request to the sheriff’s records custodian. If no public email or form is confirmed, call the jail for the approved delivery address. A focused request should ask for the open booking and release records tied to one person and date range. Electronic delivery and an advance itemized fee estimate can keep the scope clear.
Request the full name and booking identifier, booking date and time, arresting or committing agency, charge description as recorded at booking, release date and time, release type or reason, destination or receiving agency for a transfer, the photograph associated with the booking, and any correction or audit note. Bond amount or type and the court order linked to release may also be requested if the jail system recorded them. Not every field is guaranteed to exist.
Section 610.023 requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day. Full production can take longer for reasonable cause, but the response should explain the delay and give the earliest availability. Section 610.026 allows certain copy, labor, research, electronic, media, and programming charges. Ask for an estimate. Do not assume a Lewis County flat fee that the sheriff has not published.
Lewis County Bond Releases
The sheriff FAQ explains several local bond forms. Cash or Cash Only requires that form of payment. Corporate Surety may allow a bail bonding company. A property or signature bond requires court approval. Bond is meant to assure the defendant’s appearance. It does not end the prosecution, establish acquittal, or erase the booking.
A bond-out is best read as two records. The sheriff’s transaction shows when the person physically left Lewis County Jail. Case.net shows the bond entry, continued case activity, and later disposition. Money, property, or a signature supplied to the court may be applied under a later court order toward fines, costs, fees, or restitution. The docket, not the released roster, is the durable source for what happened next in the case.
Other release reasons need the same split. A dismissal is a court outcome but may not show the exact jail exit time. Time served depends on the written judgment and credit. Probation means community supervision rather than a full jail term, but it does not state the hour custody ended. Pair the record with the question being asked.
Lewis County ICE Detainer Releases
An immigration detainer can produce a two-stage movement from Lewis County Jail. ICE describes a detainer as a request for advance notice and for the jail to maintain custody for up to 48 additional hours beyond the time the person otherwise would be released, so the Department of Homeland Security can assume custody. It is not itself proof that a person reached the community.
If the jail identifies an immigration handoff, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System for current detention or a release within its stated recent window. Search can use a nine-digit A-number plus country of birth, adding leading zeroes where needed, or an exact name and country of birth with an optional birth date. The system does not show people under 18. After the published recent window, absence cannot disprove an earlier ICE release.
For a federal transfer, distinguish U.S. Marshals pretrial custody from Bureau of Prisons custody after sentence. The Marshals Service has no public person-by-person release locator. Use the federal docket for a release order. A BOP result marked “RELEASED” means the person is no longer in BOP custody, but another authority or supervision can still follow.
Lewis County Custody Services
The sheriff jail page links a current-inmate roster and Tiger Commissary. Those are current-custody services. They are not released-person locators. A missing current profile may reflect release, transfer, a name mismatch, a correction, or another issue. Use the Released category and ask the jail for the booking transaction before stating what occurred.
The official sheriff app page links iOS and Android versions of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office app. Research confirms the app is official, but the download page does not list release-specific functions. Test the current app before expecting released profiles, photos, or alerts. MOVANS is separate and is used for current Missouri custody or court notifications by text or email.
A booking photo is also a record of the intake, not the exit. It should be captioned with the booking date and government source when used. The photograph cannot establish release destination or case disposition. Those facts must come from the release record, receiving agency, and court.
